About Gretchen:
I am a senior family lawyer with over 20 years of experience.
I have managed numerous complex files over the years for parents and children from all walks of life. I have successfully challenged a range of Family Court decisions in the High Court by way of appeal.
I enjoy working collaboratively with parties and other lawyers to create sustainable long-term solutions. I am a member of the New Zealand Law Society, and an active member of the Family Law section.
I am an experienced Lawyer for Child, having been approved by the Court to undertake that role for over ten years. I have been appointed on numerous occasions to provide the Court with advice in complex situations, as Lawyer to Assist the Court.
I aim to resolve matters as efficiently as possible by consent. However, where that is not possible I will advocate strongly for my clients in Court.
I have recently moved to Christchurch from the Wairarapa and am enjoying building up my practice here. I look forward to working with you.
Services
I specialise in all matters involving children, undertaking both Care of Children Act (parenting orders) and Oranga Tamariki Act work. I also have significant experience as Lawyer for Child and always place a child's welfare and best interests first in all areas of my practice.
I act for both applicants and respondents in Family Violence Act matters. If a matter is urgent I will do my best to ensure that I can see you and get your application or response filed within 24 hours.
I am experienced in Personal and Property Rights Act work - making applications for people to be appointed welfare guardian and property manager for their loved ones who have lost the ability to make decisions for themselves. I am frequently appointed by the Court to represent the person who has lost capacity as a Lawyer for Subject Person.
I provide legal aid services to individuals who qualify, as well as undertaking work for private clients.
